
The marbled crayfish (Procambarus virginalis) discovered for the first time in an aquarium in Germany in the 1990s, is an invasive species of crayfish. This crayfish can breed without mating and is spreading rapidly across Madagascar. Molecular biologists have sequenced the genome of this species. DNA analysis suggests the self-cloning is a genetic hybrid.
